Alexander Zverev and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina will meet in the Shanghai Masters 1000 semifinals. On Thursday, October 15, the German defeated Alex de Minaur 6-4, 6-4 in 78 minutes.
This is Zverev's third semifinal at the tournament and his first since 2019. The top seed heads into the meeting after a straight-sets victory over the Australian.
Davidovich advances after retirement
Davidovich was leading Arthur Gea 4-1 in the opening set when the Frenchman retired with psoas pain. The Spaniard had come through deciding-set tiebreaks against Frances Tiafoe and Hubert Hurkacz in his previous two matches.
The contest for a place in the final therefore brings together contrasting quarterfinal paths: Zverev completed his match without dropping a set, while Davidovich advanced from a match cut short by injury.
