Alejandro Davidovich Fokina came from a set down to beat Alexander Zverev on Saturday, October 17, reaching the Shanghai Masters final with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 victory.
A run built on resilience
Zverev entered the semifinal with a 6-1 head-to-head lead and a straight-sets quarterfinal win over Alex de Minaur. Davidovich had faced a more precarious route through the draw.
He saved a match point against Frances Tiafoe before beating Hubert Hurkacz in the following round. Both matches went to deciding-set tie-breaks. In the quarterfinals, he led Arthur Gea 4-1 when the Frenchman retired with psoas pain.
Turning recovery into a final berth
Against Zverev, Davidovich recovered from losing the opening set, levelled the match and secured an early break in the decider. The comeback extended a winning sequence that began with his Chengdu title.
The Shanghai final is scheduled for Sunday, October 18. The official Tennis TV video accompanying this article features highlights of the pair's 2026 semifinal.
