Alejandro Davidovich Fokina won his first Masters 1000 title in Shanghai on Sunday, October 18. The Spaniard came from behind to defeat Rafael Jodar 1-6, 7-6(5), 6-4.

Recovering from a difficult start

Jodar dominated the opening set and went a break ahead in the second. Trailing 1-6, 2-3, Davidovich recovered the lost serve, took the set to a tie-break and completed the turnaround.

Two runs that underline a changing season

The title adds to a transformative year for Davidovich. Before Shanghai, he had won his first two ATP titles in Mallorca and Chengdu. His previous Masters 1000 final came in Monte-Carlo in 2022.

Jodar, 20, became the youngest finalist in Shanghai's history by beating Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals. His runner-up finish adds to a season featuring a Marrakech title, a Washington final, quarterfinals in Madrid and Rome, and a Montreal semifinal.

That contrast framed the final: an established player turning final appearances into trophies this season against a younger opponent building a consistent presence in the closing rounds of major events.
