Naná Silva's SP Open singles campaign ended on Thursday, September 17. The 16-year-old Brazilian lost 6-2, 6-1 to seventh seed Kaitlin Quevedo of Spain in one hour and 13 minutes. Her round-of-16 defeat left the singles draw without a Brazilian player.

An early lead slips away

Naná secured the first break for a 2-1 lead, but Quevedo broke back immediately and won five consecutive games to take the opening set. The Spaniard then moved 4-0 ahead in the second. Naná retrieved one break, but could not turn that response into a sustained challenge.

The WTA statistics underline the difference: Quevedo converted six of ten break points, while her opponent took two of five. Naná made seven double faults. Her difficulties holding serve limited the impact of her better moments on return.

A comeback win to take from the week

On Wednesday, Naná had beaten Astra Sharma 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 in two hours and 24 minutes. That comeback secured a second-round appearance at the SP Open for a second consecutive year.

According to the tournament, she was the youngest player in the main draw and junior world No. 7. Against Sharma, she converted eight of 13 break points; against Quevedo, she found less room to recover.

Stefani and Dabrowski move on in doubles

Thursday also brought a Brazilian victory. Luísa Stefani and Canada's Gabriela Dabrowski defeated Rebeca Pereira and Marjorie Souza 6-0, 6-1 in their doubles opener. The top seeds began their campaign with a win as Stefani seeks to repeat her 2025 title at the tournament.
